Experimenta Vanishing PointEXPERIMENTA, WHERE CREATIVITY AND TECHNOLOGY MEET
Experimenta is Australia’s leading contemporary arts organisation dedicated to commissioning, exhibiting and promoting media art. Since 1986 Experimenta has promoted new media and digital arts through a vibrant program of exhibitions, screenings, artist commissions and exhibition tours.

OUR PROGRAM
Biennial of Media Art
We have developed a biennial model for artistic and business planning that comprises an International Biennial of Media Art that we launch in Melbourne and then tour nationally to capital cities and regional centres. Experimenta presents inspiring exhibitions with themes that capture the imagination of a broad cross-section of people. Our events have attracted an average of 80,000 visitors per year over the past 3 years.

International Touring
Experimenta has developed a world-wide reputation for fostering creativity that extends the aesthetic and conceptual potential of new art forms and our exhibitions have been the launching pad for many high profile Australian contemporary artists. Through international exhibition touring Experimenta promotes Australian media art and develops overseas markets for the best and most innovative work of Australian media artists.

Commissions
Commissioning new work by Australian media artists is fundamental to our program of exhibitions and touring. Through the commissioning process we support the artists to develop their work beyond the important stage of research and development to be works of art that will engage and thrill the imaginations of our audiences.

ExperimentaLab
Experimenta focuses on developing projects with indigenous communities through ExperimentaLAB, a project that sees the unearthing of innovative new media projects in regional communities.

Mesh
Experimenta publishes an annual online and printed journal, MESH, which provides a critical framework for new media practice globally.

Experimenta Vanishing PointVALUE TO THE COMMUNITY
Technology and creativity
For the past two decades, digital technology has been reshaping our lives, our culture and our industries. Experimenta’s exhibitions showcase the work of artists who push the boundaries of technological innovation to create artwork that surprises, delights and creates wonder. These exhibitions demystify often complex technology, inspire audiences in the creative potential of familiar technologies and encourage them to engage with technology and the world around them.

A new exhibition experience
Media art exhibitions transform galleries into spaces in which the gallery visitor can interact & play, be intrigued, challenged and enchanted. In this way, media art can change the way people see contemporary visual art and make it more accessible, highlighting its relevance to contemporary life and culture.

Exporting Australian Culture
Our exhibitions demonstrate Australia is a place at the forefront of technical and artistic innovation with unique creative product. The overwhelmingly positive responses from international audiences to our current touring exhibition have been because the artwork resonates with a broad cross-section of people and is art like nothing they have previously experienced.

Education
Alongside of all of our exhibitions we develop public programs including gallery talks, guided tours and public forums. We work closely with the education sector to produce curriculum relevant study guides for use by schools and universities.
