Working with new imaging technologies
Modern Image Makers Association and Women In Film & Television (VIC)
will present a program of women working with new imaging technologies at the
National Gallery of Victoria on 26 February 1994 as part of Celebrating Women
1994
The program will focus on the work of a number of Australian artists
working with new technologies, with a focus on the moving image. These women
come from varied backgrounds including filmmaking, animation, television
and sculpture and have incorporated new technological media into their work.
The work of a number of artists will be exhibited, with a selection of these
artists invited to speak about their work and participate in a seminar.
The event is intended to provide both a practical and a creative stimulus
for participants. The afternoon will include an exhibition screening of
works which display a variety of new imaging methods, discussion by artists
about their work, a seminar which will address issues relating to art practice
and new technologies and access to artists on a one-to-one basis, to maximise
the educational and networking aspect for women working in this area and
those interested in incorporating these technologies into their work.
Many individuals and organisations have been contacted to identify available
technologies and current applications. Artists will include VNS Matrix with
their virtual reality computer game All New Gen, Moira Corby's
work My Memory Your Past, Faye Maxwell's Networld, both completed
using advanced imaging software at CITRI, animator Maree Woolley who developed
special effects for the EC character in the ABC Television series Lift
Off, Kim Bound's new work Autarky, which combines 16mm film and
high 8 video intercut with 2 and 3 dimensional animation, just to name a
few. Those interested in participating or attending can contact MIMA on
525 5025.
