Experimenta Life Forms – – COMMISSION ARTIST
Artist: Uyen Nguyen, Max Piantoni and Matthew Riley (VIC)
Artwork: You, Me, Things
You, Me, Things is a playable installation that invites audiences to ‘breathe life’ into a fantastical virtual world by capturing their non-verbal sounds which are transformed into digital entities.
This work makes no distinction between an environment and its inhabitants – its digital entities consist of parts of both. The population created in conjunction with the audience is continually in flux, with each sound made by a participant acting as a ‘call’ that brings the digital entities into existence. These changes create unique audiovisual compositions as the digital entities – strange flora and fauna like forms – emerge, co-exist and interact with one another in different ways.
You, Me, Things encourages affinities and bonds, and joy and affection, within this network of relations engendered through play. However, while the world is constructed by this attunement, it’s logic can also become unsettled. You, Me, Things is an enticing and playful world, while also subject to an uneasy precariousness.
