About

Rehousing Technosphere is an award-winning animation set in a far-distant future.

While set in an imagined distant future, Rehousing Technosphere’s story origins are in the present – the Anthropocene. Although humanity has been on the planet for but a fraction of time when contemplated within the geological time scale of the planet, our imprint is so vast and palpable that some now describe the littered layer of human-generated structures and systems as the ‘technosphere’; an evolving stratum of neo-geologic time that, unlike the biosphere, is comparatively deficient in recycling its own materials.

Rehousing Technosphere is a speculative fiction nature documentary staged in Earth’s distant future. Playing with the tone and structure of the nature documentary, this artwork offers a glimpse into a future where life forms have adapted to a new planetary ecology.

This film takes us into a desert-like world, soft and colourful. New species exploit a degrading layer of the planet’s crust by digging, foraging, and designing new homes. What is toxic for one species is a perfect habitat for another. Among the remnants of the Anthropocene, life moves.
